Dosage of Nembutal is determined by the patient's age, weight, and condition. Barbiturates must be dosed individually, taking into account their specific properties and recommended rate of administration. The patient's age, weight, and condition are all important factors to consider. Parenteral methods should only be utilized when oral administration is impracticable or inconvenient.
Intramuscular Administration
The sodium salts of barbiturates should be injected deeply into a big muscle, with no more than 5 mL at any one place to avoid tissue irritation. The patient's vital signs should be monitored following an intramuscular hypnotic infusion. The typical adult dosage of NEMBUTAL Sodium Solution is 150 to 200 mg as a single IM injection; the suggested paediatric dosage varies from 2 to 6 mg/kg as a single IM injection, not exceeding 100 mg.
Intravenous Administration
NEMBUTAL Sodium Solution should not be used with other medications or solutions. IV injection is only used in cases where other routes are ineffective, such as when the patient is unconscious (as in cerebral haemorrhage, eclampsia, or status epilepticus), resists (as in delirium), or rapid action is required. Slow IV infusion is required, and patients should be closely monitored during treatment. This necessitates monitoring blood pressure, breathing, and heart function, taking vital signs, and having resuscitation and artificial ventilation equipment on hand. For pentobarbital sodium, the IV injection rate should not exceed 50 mg per minute.
There is no standard intravenous dose of NEMBUTAL Sodium Solution (pentobarbital sodium injection) that may be used to achieve identical results in various people. When the medicine is given slowly in fractional amounts, the risk of overdose and respiratory depression is minimised.
A common starting dose for a 70 kg adult is 100 mg. Paediatric or disabled individuals should receive a proportional reduction in dosage. To fully assess the effectiveness of intravenous pentobarbital, at least one minute is required. If necessary, additional small doses of the medicine may be administered, up to a total of 200 to 500 mg for healthy individuals.
Anticonvulsant Usage
In convulsive conditions, the dose of NEMBUTAL Sodium Solution should be kept to a minimum to avoid exacerbating the depression that may accompany convulsions. The injection must be administered gently, taking into account the time required for the medication to reach the blood-brain barrier.
Special Patient Population
The elderly and debilitated should have their dosage reduced because they may be more sensitive to barbiturates. For patients with compromised renal function or hepatic illness, the dose should be lowered.
Inspection
Parenteral medication preparations should be visually evaluated for particle matter and discoloration before administration, if solution containers allow. Solutions for injection that show signs of precipitation should not be used.

NDC 76478-501-20 is a 20-mL multiple-dose vial containing 1 g, and NDC 76478-501-50 is a 50-mL vial containing 2.5 g.
Each millilitre contains:
Ingredients: 50 mg of pentobarbital sodium (a barbituric acid derivative), 40% propylene glycol, and 10% alcohol.
Water for injection (pH adjusted to 9.5 using hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide).
Vial stoppers are devoid of latex.
The exposure of medicinal items to heat should be minimised. Avoid extreme heat. Prevent freezing. The product should be stored at 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F), but transient excursions are permissible between 15° and 30°C (59° to 86°F). See USP regulated room temperature.

Nembutal may interact with a variety of drugs, including blood thinners, doxycycline, seizure medications, MAO inhibitors, griseofulvin, birth control pills, hormone replacement oestrogens, and steroids. Tell your doctor about all of the medications you are taking.
Nembutal for Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, do not use Nembutal. It could harm the foetus. If a mother consumes nembutal during pregnancy, her newborn may develop addiction or withdrawal symptoms. Nembutal can enter into breast milk and endanger a nursing baby. If you are breastfeeding, do not take this medication without first alerting your doctor. Nembutal may lead to habit formation. Do not discontinue Nembutal abruptly after a lengthy period of use; otherwise, you may have withdrawal symptoms.

Description of Nembutal

Hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide are used to bring the pH up to around 9.5.
